About Bob

I was raised in beautiful Southern California amid sunshine, palm trees, rock and roll, low riders, and surf culture.  If you throw all these elements together, you get an energy that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world.  I know this energy fuels my artistic inspiration.
My bio couldn’t be complete without mentioning my grandmother, who recognized and fed my talent, starting from the age of five. Grandma Towner was also an artist, whose watercolors appeared at the National Gallery of Art and were personally commissioned by Eleanor Roosevelt.
My early passion for making art was further developed by attending the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.  Right after graduation, I started working for Hang Ten/Lightening Bolt where, for the first time, my love of surfing could be expressed in my art and people actually paid me for it!
In the 40 years since, I’ve worked for many clients — from Mattel to Disney, Universal Studios to Toyota, from music videos to theme park illustration — but I never stopped painting the waves I loved riding.  This has been my lifelong stoke.
I actually tried retirement for a couple of months and, although I was happy finally taking ukulele lessons, I found I really couldn’t resist making art and sharing it with you.
